The Tillamook County District Attorney's Victims Assistance Program ("Victims Assistance") helps crime victims navigate the criminal justice system and exercise their rights.

What we do:

  • Help victims exercise their rights and navigate the criminal justice system.
  • Provide emotional support to crime victims.
  • Help people apply for protective (“restraining”) order applications.
  • Assist with applications for Crime Victims Compensation and/or Restitution.
  • Provide referrals to community resources.

What we DON’T do:

  • Provide legal services or advice.
  • Provide direct financial assistance.
  • Provide professional counseling services.
  • Help people navigate civil legal processes other than protective orders.

Confidentiality

Your privacy is very important to us. As a rule, we not will share your personal information or disclosures with people or agencies not involved with your case.

However, we are required by law to disclose some information you may tell us.

  • You can assume that anything you tell us could potentially be shared with the District Attorney’s office.
  • If you share exculpatory evidence (evidence/ information/ statements that are favorable to the defendant) with us, or if you tell us something that sheds new light on the facts of your case, we are required to share it with the District Attorney’s office AND the defendant’s attorney.
  • Victims Assistance staff and volunteers are Mandatory Reporters. If you disclose abuse, neglect, or criminal acts against vulnerable populations (including children, elderly, or disabled people) we are required by law to report this disclosure to agencies working with those populations.

Outside of these restrictions, we can only talk about your case in such a way that you wouldn’t recognize it. For example we might talk about “a theft that happened last month” but could not say that “Jane Doe’s prize-winning shoehorn collection was stolen on March 3.”
